Lake Travis is a BIG lake. There is no central/single point of access. The lake is 63.75 miles long, has over 271 miles of shoreline and its maximum width is 4.5 miles. The lake covers 18,929 acres. As the “Crown Jewel” of the Central Texas Highland Lakes, Lake Travis is one of the most visited recreational vacation destinations in the state. Lake Travis’ limestone bottom results in its unique crystal-clear blue waters, making it a freshwater haven for water enthusiasts. Lake Travis is a member of the Highland Lakes chain on the Colorado River, located minutes from Austin, Texas. The lake finished construction in 1942 with the primary purpose of flood management, although today it is also used for recreation and to generate hydroelectric power. The lake covers over 18,000 acres and can reach depths of up to 190 feet, but the water levels have been known to fluctuate greatly due to dry weather spells and other factors. Typical recreation at Lake Travis includes boating, swimming, skiing, and fishing, with common sportfish such as largemouth bass, catfish, white bass, and sunfish. Area attractions include a water park on the lake, a zip line adventure tour, and even a chance to try out flyboarding, which is essentially a jetpack powered by water! For the deep clear waters of lake living, with the convenience of Austin only minutes away, you can't beat Lake Travis!
